Pitbull beaten, shot and drowned in Eastern Townships

Quebec provincial police have joined an Eastern Townships animal protection organization to investigate a case of animal cruelty.

SPA des Cantons found the remains of a drowned pitbull Tuesday afternoon under a bridge in the town of Abercorn.

Agency director Carl Girard says someone had tied the dog's neck to a block of concrete.

The dog also had two gunshot wounds and a crushed skull.

"Honestly, it's the first time I've seen anything this disgusting. It's crazy," says Girard.

Now he's hoping to find out who is responsible. Sûreté du Québec officers from Brome-Missisquoi are also investigating the gruesome killing.

Girard believes the pitbull may have been involved in dog fighting.

The dog had a powerful build and its ears had been cut and reshaped in a way consistent with fighting dogs.
