Earthquake: 5.2 quake felt in Toronto, began in Ottawa Valley.

Earthquake Canada confirms an earthquake occurred at 9:43 a.m. originating in the Ottawa Valley.
Shawville, Que., Mayor Albert Armstrong thought a large truck had slammed into the three-storey brick walls of City Hall.
It took a few seconds for him to realize the loud rumbling that set the walls shaking was an earthquake.

Earthquake Canada reports that the 5.2 magnitude earthquake originated 21 kilometres northeast of Shawville at 9:43 a.m. Friday.

It lasted about 15 seconds, says Armstrong. “I’ve lived here my whole life and never felt anything like it.”
Armstrong says there have been no reports of damage to municipal buildings, or to residences in the town apart from a few broken picture frames.
The minor earthquake “started in a pretty unpopulated area . . . we don’t expect there to be much damage,” said seismologist John Adams of Earthquake Canada.

The quake was felt in Toronto, Ottawa, Huntsville, Waterloo and even Huron, Ohio, according to tweets and reports filed to Earthquake Canada and the USGS.

Less than 10 minutes later, a 4.1-magnitude aftershock was also recorded.

A Toronto Fire spokesperson says they haven’t seen a spike in calls since the earthquake, or any calls that appear to be related to the earthquake.
Adams expects tens to hundreds of smaller tremors to follow the earthquake, mostly felt close to the epicentre in the Quebec side of the Ottawa Valley. There is a 2 per cent chance that a larger earthquake will follow, he said.

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a 4.4 magnitude earthquake that originated 19 kilometres north-northeast of Shawville, Que. It was 9.8 kilometres deep, according to the USGS website.

In Toronto, Norma Meneguzzi Spall had just entered her home office and was doing her daily check-up of the robin family that lives in a nest outside the window.
Clicking away with her camera, she heard a rumble and noticed the mama robin pause from feeding her three chicks to peer around the corner.
