有些人經常到處拜師,貌似上師的法就像旅遊區的風景一樣,去見一下,法自然了然於心;見到上師後求下加持,似乎上師的智、悲、力通過摸頂全部進入自己的相續;灌頂時喝了寶瓶的水就得到了佛菩薩的所有悉地。的確,三根本的悉地是通過灌頂賜予的,但弟子必須具備兩個條件。
Some people often go around to visit various teachers as if the Dharma could be naturally assimilated into their minds only through one single visit just like travelling at different resorts. They assume the gurus' wisdom, compassion and power could be completely integrated into their mindstreams merely through touching their heads after their request for the gurus' blessing, or attaining all extraordinary states Buddhas and Bodhisattvas possess simply through drinking the water from vases during empowerments. Undoubtedly, marvelous states of the Three Roots are granted through empowerments, but disciples must be qualified with the following two prerequisites.

首先須以三殊勝攝持,心相續有出離心和菩提心,然後在此基礎上,觀想上師與灌頂的本尊無二無別。如蓮師灌頂,則觀想上師與蓮師無二無別,對上師和蓮師具足同樣的信心,若能做到則上師是蓮師,寶瓶是壇城,得到的是甘露。
First, their practice should be enhanced with the three supreme methods, always cherishing the mind of renunciation and bodicitta. Second, on this firm basis, they should visualize the guru absolutely no different from the yidam granting the present empowerment. Just take Padmasambva empowerment as an example. Disciples should be capable of visualizing the guru essentially the same as Padmasambva Himself, in whom they have the same absolute faith. Once successfully done this, the guru is simply Padmasambva, his vase the mandala palace, and his granting the precious nectar.
